Mutton saagwala is gravy with the combination of spinach and potatoes, which give a unique taste to this recipe. It is less spicy and very good for health as it contains palak, which is rich in iron. Gravy is mainly from the tomatoes, which also give a tangy flavor.
Ingredients
  • 500 gms mutton
  • 50 gms onions
  • 1 ½ tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 ½ tsp red chilly powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 4 green chilies
  • 5 bunches spinach leaves
  • 100 gms tomatoes
  • 50 gms refined oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 potato
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan and fry chopped onions till golden brown. To this add ginger garlic paste, red chilly powder and slit green chilies. Mix well and cook for 2 minutes.
  2. Stir in the cleaned mutton pieces, cover the pan and cook on a low flame.
  3. After it is half done add salt and potato pieces. Boil till the mutton and potatoes are cooked.
  4. Clean the spinach and drain the water in a colander. Keep it aside for a few minutes till the water is drained away. Add chopped spinach leaves, chopped tomatoes to the mutton. After 5 minutes add cumin powder, garam masala powder and remove from fire. Mutton saagwala is now ready. Serve hot with parathas or rotis.
